Interest compounds every quarter and is paid at maturity, before tax. Rates are each bank's card rate for exactly 1 year. See all 33 banks for 1 year.

Is ₹10 lakh fully insured?

DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. At the top rate, ₹10 lakh grows to ₹10,74,495. To keep every rupee covered, split it across at least 3 banks, about ₹3,33,333 in each.

Will TDS be deducted?

Banks deduct TDS when your total FD interest at that bank in a financial year crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 for senior citizens. At 7.25%, ₹10 lakh earns about ₹74,495 in the first year, so TDS will be deducted for a regular depositor unless they have other deposits at the same bank. A senior citizen at 7.75% earns about ₹79,782 in the first year, so TDS will not apply. The interest is taxable at your slab rate either way.

Taking interest out every quarter

If you need regular income, choose quarterly payout. ₹10 lakh at 7.25% pays ₹18,125 every quarter and returns the ₹10 lakh at the end. At SBI it pays ₹15,625 a quarter.

At Ujjivan SFB's 7.25% you earn ₹74,495 and get back ₹10,74,495. At SBI's 6.25% you earn ₹63,980. Both figures assume interest is reinvested every quarter and paid at maturity.

What is the monthly or quarterly interest on ₹10 lakh?

If you take interest out every quarter instead of reinvesting it, ₹10 lakh at 7.25% pays ₹18,125 a quarter. At 6.25% it pays ₹15,625. Monthly payouts are slightly lower than a third of this, because banks discount them.
