Is ₹1 lakh fully insured?
DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. ₹1 lakh plus 5 years of interest stays under ₹5 lakh even at the top rate, so the whole amount is covered at one bank.
Will TDS be deducted?
Banks deduct TDS when your total FD interest at that bank in a financial year crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 for senior citizens. At 7.77%, ₹1 lakh earns about ₹7,999 in the first year, so TDS will not be deducted for a regular depositor unless they have other deposits at the same bank. A senior citizen at 8.00% earns about ₹8,243 in the first year, so TDS will not apply. The interest is taxable at your slab rate either way.
Taking interest out every quarter
If you need regular income, choose quarterly payout. ₹1 lakh at 7.77% pays ₹1,943 every quarter and returns the ₹1 lakh at the end. At SBI it pays ₹1,513 a quarter.

What is the monthly or quarterly interest on ₹1 lakh?
If you take interest out every quarter instead of reinvesting it, ₹1 lakh at 7.77% pays ₹1,943 a quarter. At 6.05% it pays ₹1,513. Monthly payouts are slightly lower than a third of this, because banks discount them.
Is ₹1 lakh in one bank FD safe?
