Interest compounds every quarter and is paid at maturity, before tax. Rates are each bank's card rate for exactly 3 years. See all 33 banks for 3 years.

Is ₹5 lakh fully insured?

DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. At the top rate, ₹5 lakh grows to ₹6,34,121. To keep every rupee covered, split it across at least 2 banks, about ₹2,50,000 in each.

Will TDS be deducted?

Banks deduct TDS when your total FD interest at that bank in a financial year crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 for senior citizens. At 8.00%, ₹5 lakh earns about ₹41,216 in the first year, so TDS will not be deducted for a regular depositor unless they have other deposits at the same bank. A senior citizen at 8.30% earns about ₹42,810 in the first year, so TDS will not apply. The interest is taxable at your slab rate either way.

Taking interest out every quarter

If you need regular income, choose quarterly payout. ₹5 lakh at 8.00% pays ₹10,000 every quarter and returns the ₹5 lakh at the end. At SBI it pays ₹7,875 a quarter.

Questions people ask

How much interest will I get on ₹5 lakh FD for 3 years?

At Jana SFB's 8.00% you earn ₹1,34,121 and get back ₹6,34,121. At SBI's 6.30% you earn ₹1,03,131. Both figures assume interest is reinvested every quarter and paid at maturity.

What is the monthly or quarterly interest on ₹5 lakh?

If you take interest out every quarter instead of reinvesting it, ₹5 lakh at 8.00% pays ₹10,000 a quarter. At 6.30% it pays ₹7,875. Monthly payouts are slightly lower than a third of this, because banks discount them.

Is ₹5 lakh in one bank FD safe?

Only up to ₹5 lakh is insured. DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. To keep all of it covered, spread it across at least 2 banks.
