Interest compounds every quarter and is paid at maturity, before tax. Rates are each bank's card rate for exactly 3 years. See all 33 banks for 3 years.

Is ₹2 lakh fully insured?

DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. ₹2 lakh plus 3 years of interest stays under ₹5 lakh even at the top rate, so the whole amount is covered at one bank.

Will TDS be deducted?

Banks deduct TDS when your total FD interest at that bank in a financial year crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 for senior citizens. At 8.00%, ₹2 lakh earns about ₹16,486 in the first year, so TDS will not be deducted for a regular depositor unless they have other deposits at the same bank. A senior citizen at 8.30% earns about ₹17,124 in the first year, so TDS will not apply. The interest is taxable at your slab rate either way.

Taking interest out every quarter

If you need regular income, choose quarterly payout. ₹2 lakh at 8.00% pays ₹4,000 every quarter and returns the ₹2 lakh at the end. At SBI it pays ₹3,150 a quarter.

Questions people ask

How much interest will I get on ₹2 lakh FD for 3 years?

At Jana SFB's 8.00% you earn ₹53,648 and get back ₹2,53,648. At SBI's 6.30% you earn ₹41,253. Both figures assume interest is reinvested every quarter and paid at maturity.

What is the monthly or quarterly interest on ₹2 lakh?

If you take interest out every quarter instead of reinvesting it, ₹2 lakh at 8.00% pays ₹4,000 a quarter. At 6.30% it pays ₹3,150. Monthly payouts are slightly lower than a third of this, because banks discount them.

Is ₹2 lakh in one bank FD safe?

Yes, within the deposit insurance limit. DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. ₹2 lakh plus its interest stays under ₹5 lakh.
