Is ₹25 lakh fully insured?
DICGC insures deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, principal and interest together. At the top rate, ₹25 lakh grows to ₹29,14,821. To keep every rupee covered, split it across at least 6 banks, about ₹4,16,667 in each.
Will TDS be deducted?
Banks deduct TDS when your total FD interest at that bank in a financial year crosses ₹50,000, or ₹1,00,000 for senior citizens. At 7.75%, ₹25 lakh earns about ₹1,99,454 in the first year, so TDS will be deducted for a regular depositor unless they have other deposits at the same bank. A senior citizen at 8.25% earns about ₹2,12,719 in the first year, so TDS will apply. The interest is taxable at your slab rate either way.
Taking interest out every quarter
