How the silver rate is set in India
IBJA publishes an opening and a closing benchmark for 999 fine silver each trading day, from quotes collected from bullion dealers in Mumbai. The rate follows the international silver price in dollars, the rupee exchange rate and import duty. Silver jewellery and articles are usually less pure than 999, so they are priced lower per gram before charges.
Questions people ask
What is the silver rate per gram today?
The IBJA benchmark for 999 fine silver is ₹182 a gram, or ₹1,81,863 a kilogram, as of the 6 November 2026, opening (AM) rate. With 3% GST, 100 grams comes to ₹18,732.
Why is silver priced per kilogram?
Bullion dealers trade silver in kilogram bars, so IBJA quotes it per kilogram. Divide by 1,000 for the price of a gram. Shops selling coins and articles add GST and their own charges.
Why does silver move more than gold?
Silver is also an industrial metal, used in solar panels and electronics, so its price reacts to factory demand as well as to investors. Over the last 28 trading days in our data, the silver closing rate ranged from ₹1,76,425 to ₹2,24,157 per kg.
Why is there no new rate today?
IBJA does not publish on Saturdays, Sundays or market holidays, and on trading days the opening rate appears partway through the day. Until then, the last published rate stays on this page.
